WHAT THE PRESS SAY……
CLASSIC ROCK magazine
"London's own Bubblegum Screw have been knocking 'em dead since 2006 with a searing glam-punk sound that's equal amounts New York punk, London glitter and L.A. sleaze. They're young and skinny and teenage girls love them. The band say they're “on a rock 'n' roll mission and take no prisoners!” Which is exactly the shit Axl would yell at people in 1985. So, good start. Okay, so their signature song is called ‘Rock 'n' Roll Loser’ but who says it's about them?"
PUNK GLOBE
Don’t let the name fool you…Bubblegum Screw is one of the best new bands and their recent “Screwphoria” is one of the best albums of 2011. With near perfect production, their punk rawk release sounds more like the New York Dolls than the New York Dolls do! Mark Thorn’s vocals aren’t exactly refreshing, but David Jo has never won any awards for his vocal abilities…continuing, his vocals sound like Stiv Bators after a shave, shower, and smoke break. Zach Rembrandt and Ken Komono’s guitar work is also impressive, where they balance out the vibes of Johnny Thunders and Johnny Ramone, while trying to remain unique.
VIVE LE ROCK mag – ‘I Was A Teenage Fuck-Up’ on the covermount Cd & Live review with Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg at Islington Academy
London’s hottest glam punk ‘n’ rollers sleaze it up on their new album ‘Screwphoria!’ With a song title like that , guitar lines like they’ve been dragged through the gutter, strutting rythms and vocals spat out with dirty attitude, they’re the rightful heirs to the New York Dolls.Screw it , just listen.
A confident , self-assured rocking crew of glam punks, Bubblegum Screw stomp their way through a fiery set of fist-in-the-air, cock-in-your-pint snot nosed anthems-in-the-making from album ‘SCREWPHORIA!Think The Ramones crossed with the ‘Dolls whipped up to light speed. Issue 4. August 2011.
BIG TAKEOVER MAGAZINE – JACK RABID
NO.24 in Jack’s TOP 40
Coincidently, I played this London quintet’s debut following Radio Birdman’ new live LP, and thought I’d hit “repeat” on the awesome Aussie punk pioneers. Were BS (ha!) from Melbourne, they’d slot with 100 great Down Under bruisers whose grandparents were The MC5’s Back in the U.S.A. and The Stooges and whose parents were Birdman and the 1976 Ramones’ buzzsaw sustain. It’s similar high-octane, quick-firing, down ‘n’ dirty, punk ‘n’ roll thrills—only from Albion. Frontman Mark Thorn’s raspy throat is equal parts D Generation’s Jesse Main, Dictators’ Handsome Dick Manitoba, Birdman’s Rob Younger, and Mr. hoarse, Stiv Bators—caged rats busting loose to the beat. But the hub is his band’s proto-punk, ballsy, slinging, Chuck Berry-on-speed slamarama, like a neuvo Saints, Only Alternative or Pagans with Johnny Thunders’ leads. Screwphoria is a 14-song, 50-minute big-boot kick up the backside! Wham!
